Both Manchester City and England will be filled with encouragement following recent words from Kyle Walker on his recovery from surgery this month.

The 32 year-old took on surgery on a groin problem earlier this month, after sustaining an issue during Manchester City's 6-3 win in the Manchester derby.

Walker joined City midfielder Kalvin Phillips on the recovery table, after the midfielder also went under the knife in an attempt to resolve an ongoing shoulder problem.

However, given the close proximity between the operation date and the start of the FIFA World Cup in Qatar, surgery left Kyle Walker wondering whether the possibility of what could be a final major tournament had gone.

That is certainly not the case in the eyes of the player however, who has now stressed his confidence in making the tournament that begins in November.

Speaking to BBC Radio 5Live, the Manchester City full-back said, "My first thought now is getting back for England.

"I'm confident. I've been through enough in my career to know my body."

He continued, "I'm well above what they thought I'd be able to do at this point.

"I just feel I can do this. I am going to have to be patient with it.

"There will be bumps in the road but hopefully, come the selection (for the World Cup), I'm included."

Opening up on the behind-the-scenes of his surgery, and the discussions that took place prior to Kyle Walker going under the knife, the England defender highlighted the urgent nature of the request to get the operation completed.

"It was a little bit manic," said Walker.

"I went down on the Monday and I said to the surgeon: 'Please mate, you're going to have to do it, I have a World Cup'."

He continued, "He wanted to do it on the Thursday but he said I'll meet you there in an hour."

"He jumped on the tube, I got in the car and that was it, I was under the knife having surgery."

With Kyle Walker now two weeks into his recovery following surgery, a new update concerning optimism within the England camp has also emerged in recent days.

According to Sami Mokbel of the Mail, there is now hope that Walker could be selected in the final 26-man England squad for the World Cup.

It is claimed that reports regarding the Manchester City defender’s recovery progress is understood to have encouraged the England camp.
