Manchester City midfielder Kalvin Phillips has tipped Erling Haaland to take the Premier League by storm in his debut season at the Etihad Stadium.

Scoring 86 goals in 89 appearances for Borussia Dortmund in all competitions, Erling Haaland is globally recognized as one of Europe’s finest strikers.

Since his move to the Bundesliga in 2020, the Norwegian has been put alongside Robert Lewandowski and Karim Benzema amongst the elite bracket of number nines in world football.

As a result, there has not been a bigger talking point amongst fans of all clubs ever since he was confirmed as a Manchester City player.

After City’s arduous wait for a traditional marksman for a majority of the last two seasons, a striker of the youngster’s calibre has finally walked through the door.

This is indeed a scary sight for the rest of the competition in England, as Haaland has been added to a side that were already the Premier League’s top scorers last season in the absence of an out-and-out striker.

The addition of one of the world’s most lethal finishers to Pep Guardiola's side - already the best in the country as well - is enough to send shivers down the chasing pack’s spines.

To make matters worse for others, there are few clubs in world football that create more chances than Manchester City, hence the Norwegian has all the service at his disposal to shine.

Pep Guardiola’s coaching is an additional benefit that could transform the revered goalscorer’s game to unprecedented levels.

Kalvin Phillips, who has also joined the Premier League champions this summer, gave an insight into his high expectations for his teammate next season.

“I think just the presence he (Haaland) has and the confidence he has in himself is what every big striker needs," the former Leeds man said in an interview with Sky Sports.

"You can see he has got that in abundance, and the way he trains, how competitive he is because obviously he has got a massive responsibility now at City.

"I think he will fly this season. We’ve spoken quite a bit about Leeds and we get on quite well, I have not met him before so he is a good lad and a great football player as well.”

Ultimately, Phillips is not alone in expecting the Norwegian international to set things alight in his first season in the Premier League, with many tipping him to eventually take home the Golden Boot.

Only time will tell whether Erling Haaland is an instant success or takes time to adapt to the Pep Guardiola way in the same vein as Jack Grealish.
