Campbell Hatton Makes Heartbreaking Admission in First Interview Since His Dad's Death

Boxing legend Ricky Hatton passed away suddenly last month.

Campbell Hatton has spoken out about his father's death in his first interview since the tragic news.

On September 14, British boxing legend Ricky Hatton was found dead in his Greater Manchester home by close friend and manager Paul Speak.

Since then, several of the biggest names in the sport have spoken out to offer tributes to Hatton and give their condolences to his family.

Hatton's son Campbell, who is also a former professional boxer, later posted his own tribute on social media, saying that heartbroken wasn't a strong enough word to describe his emotion.

And now, the 24-year-old has spoken further about the impact his dad's death has had in a heartbreaking interview.

While speaking with Granada Reports sports correspondent Mike Hall, Campbell admitted that his family have been "hit for six" and left "heartbroken" by his dad's unexpected passing.

He said: "We are absolutely heartbroken...it was so unexpected. We had so many plans coming up, so it has knocked us for six, but obviously we are trying to be there for each other.

"The outpouring of support from absolutely everyone has been amazing, so that's helping us through a lot, but yes, [we are] absolutely heartbroken."

Opening up about the close relationship he had with his dad, Campbell added: "He used to call me his little Mini-Me.

"We were identical in so many ways, and I think it's shown through how close we were and the banter we had with each other.

"To so many he was Ricky Hatton the boxer, but to me he was just my dad, and to the family, it was Richard. We just can't get our heads round it at the minute."

Hatton held multiple world championships in the light welterweight division, and one at welterweight, during his legendary professional boxing career.

In what is regarded as one of the biggest upsets in the history of the sport, he claimed a huge title win over Kostya Tszyu

He earned notable world title wins over Kostya Tszyu in 2005, earning him the title of Fighter of the Year in The Ring magazine, the Boxing Writers Association of America, and ESPN.

Ricky Hatton's funeral will be held on Friday 10 October at Manchester Cathedral, and Campbell has asked his fans and locals to come along and show their support for the British boxing icon.

"That's exactly what he would have wanted. He sees his biggest achievement as his fanbase, and that's what he was most proud of," he stated.

"So what he'd want would be the streets to be full of people...because everything he did, he did for his fans."
