Team GB's Olympic star Jade Jones brutally knocked out her opponent during her boxing debut on Misfits, leaving questions about the matchmaking for the fight.

Following a highly successful career that saw her win gold for Team GB at the 2012 and 2016 Olympic Games, Jones recently decided to try her hand at boxing.

Last year, she signed with Misfits Boxing, the popular organisation that hosts several big influencer and professional bouts, with the likes of d, former UFC star Darren Till and, controversially, Andrew Tate all fighting under the Misfits banner.

In her boxing debut, Jones faced American reality star Egypt Criss, daughter of daughter of rappers Anthony Criss from Naughty by Nature and Sandra Denton from Salt-N-Pepa, on Saturday night in Derby.

But within seconds it was clear that there was only ever going to be one winner, and the fight ended in a brutal fashion.

Heading into the fight, Criss had no prior combat sports experience, and that was abundantly clear during the bout.

Although she made it out of the first round, three consecutive left hooks that went completely unblocked by Criss left her unconscious on the canvas in the second round in a truly shocking moment.

“Mams [Taylor] told me there was a knockout bonus. I didn’t get paid enough, so I had to do the knockout bonus," Jones said post-fight.

Immediately after the moment, the commentary team claimed that fans may have already seen the knockout of the year, but it's clear that this opinion is not shared by many online, as some claimed that the gap in experience between the pair demonstrated that the fight was a huge mismatch.

Reacting to footage of the knockout 18-time world champion Claressa Shields asked "What kinda match making is this?"

Combat Sports journalist Ariel Helwani added: "Oh my days this is brutal."

Meanwhile one fan brutally wrote: "Now that I know the truth, this is nasty work . A child star with no fighting experience vs a two time Olympic athlete? And it’s being celebrated. This is sick. And a bad representation of combat sports."

Thankfully, Criss' husband Sam Sammattick Wright took to Instagram following the fight to confirm that she was ok following the brual knockout and would return to the ring after she had recovered.

He wrote: “My Wife is a Gladiator with a Heart that no one in the world can match. She will be back she is good and out the ring safe. Give her the respect as a fighter she has earned… SHE DUCKED NO FADE!,
