58-year-old man made his professional boxing debut against a 23-year-old with 12 fights under his belt and what happened next stunned everyone

The age gap between the two stood at 35 years.

A boxing match saw a 58-year-old man make his professional boxing debut against a fighter 35 years his junior and the result spoke volumes.

The subject of a large age gap between boxers came into focus last year when YouTuber Jake Paul took on veteran fighter Mike Tyson.

Paul emerged victorious with a unanimous decision win in the eighth round as he beat a man more than 30 years older than him at the AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas.

The fight was Tyson's first bout in almost 20 years and means his record now stands at 50 victories, seven losses and two no contests from 59 professional encounters.

But it is not the first time there has been a large age gap between fighters when they met in the ring, as there was one a year before Paul faced Tyson which albeit did not come with the same amount of hype and publicity.

In 2023, a then 58-year-old man by the name of Scot England made his professional boxing debut at the Texas Troubadour Theatre in Nashville, Tennessee.

His opponent was Jashawn Hunter, who was aged 23 at the time and meant there was an age gap of some 35 years between the two fighters, with England being old enough to be his father.

The match was only around six seconds into the first round when Hunter knocked down England to the floor after landing a couple of big shots.

The commentator said: "A big shot, down goes England and his head slammed off the canvas. He seems to be okay. He's going to try to get up and he still wants to go on."

After returning to his feet, England appear to whisper to the referee confirming he wanted to continue and the fight carried on with Hunter clearly on top and landing several punches and jabs.

Not long after the fight resumed and with it clearly going in one direction, England's corner threw in the towel and the fight was curtailed by the referee in only the first round as Hunter put his arm around his opponent and appeared to console him.

The match is the only one of England's career, while the victory for Hunter remains his only win out of 12 fights, with the other 11 bouts ending in defeat and nine of which were by knockout.

Hunter's last fight was in February of this year, where he lost to Brandon Williams at the Thomas Gymnastics Training Center in Rock Hill, South Carolina.
