It's not good news for Tyron Woodley.

Not only did he slump to a third successive defeat in the UFC, but he also broke a rib in the process.

The former welterweight champ came up short in his grudge match with Colby Covington at UFC Vegas 11 after the referee waved off the fight in the final round due to Woodley's injury.

Screaming out in pain, it was clear that the former 170-pound king had done some serious damage to himself - but not everyone was sure exactly what.

The referee wasted no time in stopping the bout and Covington was subsequently handed the victory.

And while devout Trump supporter Covington stole all the post-fight headlines with his on-air antics, Woodley was left facing a nervous wait to what he had done to his ribs.

Unfortunately for T-Wood, scans confirmed the worst.

The 38-year-old had, indeed, broken a rib during a scramble with Covington in the octagon.

UFC reporter Ariel Helwani took to social media to post a picture of the scans.

He tweeted: "X-Ray of Tyron Woodley's broken rib, courtesy of Woodley.

"He said it popped earlier in the fight and then tried to use the guillotine to stand up and it popped. "It was the most pain ever," he said.

"He is back at the hotel resting."

Having lost to Kamaru Usman, Gilbert Burns and now Covington some people are calling for Woodley to retire - including the UFC president.

Dana White and Woodley have butted heads in the past during Woodley's reign as the welterweight champion, but even the UFC boss couldn't bite his tongue just moments after the main event had concluded.

"I think he should start thinking about hanging it up," White said.

"He's had a great career. He's made his money.

"We all get old, man. This happens to the best of us. Woodley's had a good career. He's been a champion. He's been around a while. He had a good run in Strikeforce, too."
