The World Cup will provide the perfect platform for several footballers to earn significant summer moves should they impress on the globe’s biggest stage, and one MLS star can enhance the interest Barcelona have in him with a fine performance.
The Catalan club will be looking to strengthen their squad ahead of the next campaign after they secured La Liga this campaign, hoping that they can lift the trophy again next season to make it three consecutive Spanish top-flight titles in a row under Hansi Flick.
Arguably the area they need to strengthen is their defence and so this will explain why they are going after this MLS star this summer.
Barcelona have been linked to Lucas Herrington, who has been one of the breakout stars of the MLS this season with the Colorado Rapids.

The 18-year-old's performances have helped him earn a place in the Australia national team for the World Cup, with the defender aiming to help his country progress from the same group as the USA, Turkiye and Paraguay.
Tom Bogert reported that several clubs are monitoring the teenager, with Barcelona the biggest name linked.
It may be a surprise that the Catalan club are linked to the player who has made 15 appearances this season, with the Rapids sitting in 11th in the Western Conference of the MLS.
Yet, for the 18-year-old to have been named in the Australia squad and to be attracting the interest in some of the world’s biggest clubs from his performances for the Rapids, they must see the potential he has to become one of the best defenders in the game.

Herrington will be looking to focus on the World Cup before turning his attention to the future of his club career, whether that lies in Colorado, Barcelona, or elsewhere.
The central defender will be hopeful he can be part of a record-breaking Australia team as they look to progress further than they ever have in the World Cup, as their best performances have come in 2006 and 2022 as they look to reach the quarter final for the first time ever.
