Lewis Hamilton Finally Did A 'Shoey' With Daniel Ricciardo

Lewis Hamilton Finally Did A 'Shoey' With Daniel Ricciardo

The Formula One duo finally partook in the well-known Aussie tradition following their podium finishes at the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix.

The only thing Lewis Hamilton could do was shake his head.

Whether it was because of the bitter champagne aftertaste or because he didn't fancy sculling a drink from his own sweaty shoe - who knows?

Either way, it was TV gold to see the two Formula One drivers enjoy a rather unconventional beverage together.

Six-time F1 world champion Hamilton is normally a well-spoken, mature, professional athlete.

But at the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix, things were a little different.

Hamilton was somehow roped into doing a 'shoey' with fellow F1 star Daniel Ricciardo after the pair clinched podium finishes at the Autodromo Internazionale Enzo e Dino Ferrari circuit in Italy.

Championship leader Hamilton came in first while Ricciardo managed to secure his second third place finish in less than three weeks.

When Aussie fan favourite Ricciardo clinched his first podium since 2018 at the Eifel Grand Prix in mid-October, he forgot to celebrate with his customary 'shoey'.

Fans were disappointed.

But at the Emilia Romagna GP, he made sure that didn't happen again - and even convinced Hamilton to take part too.

While he didn't look best pleased, Hamilton reluctantly sunk the shoey with ease before pouring the remainder of it on Ricciardo's head.

"I was about to drink a beautiful fresh one and I heard Lewis saying 'take your other shoe off'," Ricciardo said.

"And I was like 'No...'. Because honestly I think it was three years ago on the podium he goes, 'I'll never, ever do that, I'll never drink it. You can offer me, you can force me, I'll never do it.' And he even asked for it today.

"So it took me by surprise, but 2020 is the year of the strange so it was good fun."

Fans on social media were loving witnessing a side to Hamilton that we don't often see.

As for the 'shoey' itself, well, let's just say people still aren't convinced by the rather gross Aussie tradition.
