"He Talked About My Mother, He Said 'You Motherf**ker'": Confused Canelo Reveals What Sparked Press Conference Brawl

Saul Canelo Alvarez has revealed exactly what Caleb Plant said to him which sparked their press conference brawl.

And by the looks of things, Canelo got the complete wrong end of the stick.

Speaking just after their heated clash, Canelo told reporters that Plant took a below-the-belt shot by talking about his mother during their face-off.

Bang out of order, right?

Well, it turns out Plant wasn't directly talking about Canelo's mum, but was instead calling his opponent a motherf**ker.

A journalist asked: "What did Caleb Plant say in your face that seemed to set you off?"

To which the boxing great replied: "Oh, he talked about my mum. He said 'you motherf**ker' so you passed the line right there, so that's why I pushed him and then he came back with a left hook. That's what happened."

Clearly angered by these taunts, and probably a bit confused, Canelo then pushed Plant during their stare-down which is when chaos erupted..

Perhaps realising that Plant's message was lost in translation, Canelo then appeared to make light of the situation on Twitter after.

"Don't talk about my mom," he said in a post accompanied by footage of the scrap.

Or does he still genuinely think Plant was having a pop at his dear mother? Who knows.

Tensions truly boiled over after the official press conference, but that wasn't the only time throughout the event that the two rivals traded barbs.

At one point, Plant brought up Canelo's previous ban following a positive drug sample, which drew an angry reaction from the Mexican.

"This is a dangerous enough sport for people to be popping positive for things and I don't think he got punished," Plant said.

"There's no room for that in our sport.

"Cheating, people don't cheat out of confidence, they cheat out of fear.

"He went to trial and he got suspended for six months. It is what it is, he's a cheater."

The interpreter then went back with a reply before Canelo intervened himself.

"Shut the f**k up," he yelled from across the table.
