An American woman entered her husband into a full marathon just 24 hours before it got underway - and the results were extraordinary.
Californian Maisie Todd entered her husband Logan Goodspeed into the Rock 'n' Roll Marathon in San Diego on June 1, waking him up at 6am in the morning to deliver the good news.
Goodspeed had no preparation or training prior to being told he would be competing, and had not been involved in sports since he was at high school.

It wasn't the ideal start for the 32-year-old, who said (via the New York Post): "Running is definitely not a passion."
But he made it on to the start line and set off - a punishment, Todd said, for repeatedly boasting that he could complete a marathon at 24 hours' notice.
In an interview with USA TODAY, she said: "Logan just kept saying that he could wake up and ... complete a marathon.
"Everyone was like, 'Come on, Logan, there's no way that you're going to wake up and complete a marathon with 24 hours' notice'. But he kept bringing it up and kept saying he could do it."

Goodspeed eventually ran the marathon in a highly respectable five hours and 58 minutes, finishing in 5,081th position.
He ran quicker than 854 other competitors - who presumably had prepared for longer than 24 hours.

"I started running and jogging and did that for about 10 miles and felt surprisingly good about it the whole time," he added.

"I knew I was going to finish so it just became a mind game of how I was going to get there. The goal was to get within seven and then I realised, I did the math about halfway through and realised I could break six if I wanted to."
All the while Goodspeed was running, he was quickly becoming viral on TikTok.
Todd posted the initial video, which showed her telling her husband that he would be competing, on the video-sharing platform - but was taken aback by just how popular it turned it out to be.
"I thought it would be funny just to say, 'Oh, I signed my husband up for a marathon with no notice'. That's kind of it.

"And then so many people wanted updates. I was running around like a chicken with my head cut off on Sunday trying to find him, follow him around, film it, edit it and upload."
The initial TikTok video has racked up over 11 million views, with Todd then profiling everything her husband did to prepare over the next 24 hours.
That included what he was eating and drinking, what he needed to pack and dropping him off near the start line.

Each of her five videos posted during the marathon hit over one million views, with a video of Goodspeed trying to get out of bed the morning after making it to 1.9 million.
In response to one fan asking how 'sore' he was, out of one to 10, after the race, Todd replied: "12."

"It was always a fun hypothetical question to ask people and now it's been answered," Goodspeed concluded. "You can finish a marathon with 24 hours' notice.
"The day after was not good, everything hurt. Stairs were a problem. I still just kept drinking plenty of fluids and stretching as much as I could.
"I think my running career started and ended on Sunday."
