AFL star Nathan Broad reveals he sliced his penis open

Aussie Rules star Nathan Broad has revealed he sliced his penis open in a freak injury.

He did see the funny side of things, though, joking that doctors “took a few inches off me” during the surgery.

Speaking to the Herald Sun ahead of the upcoming AFL season, the three-time Premiership winner opened up about a truly gruesome injury he suffered when he was just 12 years old.

Mucking around with the footy as a kid, a young Broad took some friendly fire and was kneed in the knackers by a mate.

The collision to this groin actually ended up stretching the skin and tearing it, causing his penis to slice open.

A bloke's worst nightmare? Without doubt.

Now, 17 years on, the Richmond Tigers defender looks back on that terrible incident with a giggle.

“I had a look and the old “johnson” was hanging out like a chook’s neck,” he told the Herald Sun.

“It was literally just hanging by the beans and it (the tear) went all the way around back to the start. A perfect cut, hardly any blood.”

Broad was rushed to hospital and required a number of stitches to piece his private parts back together.

“They took a few inches off me, I reckon,” he joked.

Fascinated by the outrageous ordeal, various publications and radio stations Down Under were keen to hear more about it.

“I was 12, I was in the pool for a long time at home, you know when your hands go really wrinkly,” Broad explained while appearing on Triple M, going into more detail.

“I got out and me and some mates were mucking around kicking the footy… I was running backwards and my mate was trying to tackle me and I tripped on my own feet and his knee kind of kneed me in the groin a bit.

“Had a look and ‘the old Johnson’ was hanging out like a chook’s neck. Lucky the beans were there because they held it back.”

He added: “They were making phone calls around the world. They had no idea what to do

“It was literally just hanging by the beans and it went all the way round back to the start like paper mache, perfect cut. Hardly any blood.

“After a while they knocked me out – had a lot of phone calls and meetings with what to do.

“Essentially they stitched it back up… they took a few inches off me I reckon.”

His terrifying yarn comes shortly after he and his wife Tayla Damir announced they are expecting their first child together.

Married just four months ago, the happy couple have unveiled that there will be a new member of the Broad clan joining them very soon.

"Cooking for three!" Tayla wrote in an Instagram caption alongside a picture of her showing off her baby bump.

She also posted a picture of her and Broad on her Instagram story holding up an 'it's a girl' sign, captioning it: "God help @nathanbroad."
