Arsenal reportedly feel they are in a ‘strong position’ to sign Leicester’s Youri Tielemans this summer. The Belgian is considered one of Arsenal’s main transfer targets.

With the transfer window now officially open, Arsenal will hope they can address some issues in their squad. Alongside a new striker, midfield is a key position for the Gunners.

At times this season Arsenal had success playing in Mikel Arteta’s favoured 4-3-3 formation. Thomas Partey, when fit, is a fantastic option for the pivot player, and Martin Ødegaard has made the right hand side his own. That leaves the left sided midfielder slot open.

At times Granit Xhaka played in that position, but he lacked quality when entering the final third. Arsenal will then be keen to secure a player who is comfortable going forward to contribute to the attack.

Arsenal have been looking at several players for this role. Wolve’s Ruben Neves and Brighton’s Yves Bissouma are players the Gunners are rumoured to be interested in. However, they both seem better suited to the pivot role.

Leicester’s Youri Tielemans seems to be the target best suited for the role. The 25 year old has been a Premier League regular for several seasons now and has been impressively consistent. He has ten goals and assists for the last two years, which for a player who often plays in a deeper role for Leicester, is excellent.

The Athletic are reporting that Arsenal feel they are in a “strong position” to sign the Belgian this summer. Not securing Champions League football was once thought to be a barrier to the deal, but it seems the player is keen on a move to North London regardless.

With only one year left on his contract Arsenal will hope they can wrap up a deal for the international without having to part with a massive outlay.

Now the window is open, Arsenal will hope things start to move.
