Arsenal are a better option than Manchester United for Robert Lewandowski, according to pundit and former Premier League striker Chris Sutton.

Lewandowski looks set to depart Bayern Munich this summer after his relationship with the board soured, and it's reported that he is hopeful of a move to Barcelona.

However, the LaLiga team's financial troubles, which include over £1 billion in debt make the move unlikely.

Lewandowski has established himself as one of the world's leading strikers over the last five to 10 years, scoring 35 goals in 34 Bundesliga games last season.

Arsenal are in desperate need of a new striker next season and while it's unlikely Lewandowski would join the club due to not being in the UEFA Champions League, Sutton believes Arsenal are in a better state than Manchester United.

“I have seen that Lewandowski has been linked,” Sutton said to BBC Radio Five Live Sport.

“If he doesn’t go to Barcelona, then he will go to Manchester United.

“But why? Why would he want to go to Manchester United? There are bigger and better options out there.

“Manchester City, Liverpool, Chelsea and Spurs, at this moment in time and Arsenal are a better option, at this moment in time than Manchester United.

“One club seems to be stable under Arteta, I am not saying Arteta has torn up too many trees, but they are in a better position and they are better placed than Manchester United.”

United are currently undergoing another period of transition, with new manager Erik ten Hag taking over from the disappointing interim period of Ralf Rangnick.
