Arsenal have been handed a major boost as big money transfer target tells his club he wants to leave.

According to Charles Watts, Lisandro Martinez has informed his current club that he is determined to secure a move to the Premier League.

The Ajax player is currently highly sought after with both Arsenal and Manchester United chasing the versatile defender.

This news will come as a boost to both sides looking to secure the signing of Martinez as it will make negotiations far easier to work out.

Although the 24-year-old is keen on a move away from Ajax, it is unclear which Premier League side he would rather sign for.

It has been rumoured that Manchester United are the club in the driving seat thanks to the arrival of their new manager, Erik ten Hag.

Ten Hag and Martinez combined during their time together at Ajax, and the Dutch manager is a big fan of his former player.

However, Martinez is also said to be intrigued by the current Arsenal project.

Watts believes that the Argentine is a ‘big admirer of Mikel Arteta’s ideas’, and that he is open to moving to the North London side.

Martinez would be a great asset to the Arsenal squad and his signing would provide the club strength in depth across a variety of positions.

Arteta would be able to utilise Martinez at left back, centre back or even as a holding midfielder.

This fits in with the current Gunners transfer policy, with the club looking to sign players who are able to play in more than one position.

It is believed Arteta is hoping to create fluidity throughout his squad.

Particularly in the front line, as the Spaniard hopes to have a group of attackers capable of playing in multiple positions.

The arrivals of Gabriel Jesus, Fabio Vieira and now the Martinez rumours suggest that versatility is essential in order to join Arteta’s Arsenal.

The Gunners had hoped to add Raphinha also, but that now looks unlikely.

Following the Jesus and Vieira signings, Arsenal fans will be hoping their side continue to make moves to improve the squad before the start of the 2022/23 Premier League season. .
