Arsenal Urged To Complete 'Statement' Signing Gabriel Jesus

Arsenal Urged To Complete 'Statement' Signing Gabriel Jesus

Arsenal have been urged to complete the signing of Gabriel Jesus by Arsenal legend Ray Parlour.

Arsenal icon Ray Parlour has urged his former side to get a deal wrapped up for Jesus quickly, labelling it a ‘statement’ signing.

Speaking to TalkSPORT, the former mesmeric midfielder spoke of the need to sign a striker this summer, and how the 25-year-old Brazilian international fits the bill perfectly. Parlour dismissed concerns of the financial difficulties of the deal, saying:

“I should imagine they could (pay Jesus’s wages)”

Lacazette was probably on £200k-a-week. That’s top of their list, from Edu, to get the right man in”

Arsenal have culled their wage-bill since Arteta joined the club in 2019, and Lacazette represents one of the last players on an inflated wage, freeing up the acquisition of talent who are deserving of such sums of money.

Jesus has been a continual link throughout the transfer window so far, with the Times reporting that a deal is edging ever closer, as the Gunners had their first bid of around £30 million turned down.

The Brazilian represents the next stage in the project at the Emirates, signing ready-made talent about to enter their prime years.

The four time Premier League winner represents an incredible purchase were the deal to materialise, with the City man tallying 25 goal contributions in all competitions last season, despite being used as a rotational option for large swathes of the campaign.

Arsenal have already completed two transfers this campaign, 19-year-old Brazilian Marquinhos from Sao Paulo, and Fabio Vieira from Porto for a fee believed to be in the region of €40 million.
