Why Todd Boehly Has Been Phoning Chelsea's Rivals Ahead Of 2022/23 Season

Why Todd Boehly Has Been Phoning Chelsea's Rivals Ahead Of 2022/23 Season

Chelsea co-owner Todd Boehly has been phoning the club's rivals ahead of the new season.

New Chelsea co-owner Todd Boehly has been contacting other Premier League clubs ahead of the new season, according to reports.

The American businessman completed his takeover of the club alongside Clearlake Capital at the end of May, with the Blues being bought for a fee of around £4.25 billion.

Boehly is now set to take part in his first transfer window at the west London outfit, with Chelsea keen to launch a Premier League title challenge against the likes of Manchester City and Liverpool.

Despite being at the club for a short amount of time so far, it appears as though he is already preparing for the new campaign.

According to The Athletic, Boehly has recently been calling personnel from other Premier League sides to introduce himself, as well as giving him the chance to talk about potential transfer business.

Chelsea’s new co-owner has already issued a warning to the rest of the English top flight as he is ‘plotting a summer spending spree’ in order to give the Blues the best chance of competing for next season’s title.

Boss Thomas Tuchel is also believed to have been promised up to six new signings in the window, with emphasis being put on strengthening the squad’s attack and defence.

Changes are already being made higher up in the club too as Bruce Buck is stepping down as Chairman at the end of the month, with Boehly now replacing him in the position.

Marina Granovskaia has left her position as director, having spent 12 years at the club.

Such moves mean Chelsea could be looking for new figures on the board, and they are said to be keen on appointing outgoing Liverpool chief Michael Edwards as their new sporting director, but they face competition from Manchester United.

Chelsea have had a slow start to their transfer business when compared to other clubs in the Premier League, but some of their targets have been identified as they begin preparations for next season.

Raheem Sterling could make the switch from Manchester City, with the 27-year-old having just one year left on his contract at the club.

Tuchel is said to have held positive talks with the winger over a potential move, and a deal could be completed for around £60 million.

Juventus defender Matthijs de Ligt has also been eyed, with reports suggesting that Chelsea could use Timo Werner in a swap deal for the 22-year-old centre-back.
