Marc Cucurella at Cobham as Thomas Tuchel confirms Chelsea transfer and explains Levi Colwill decision

Marc Cucurella at Cobham as Thomas Tuchel confirms Chelsea transfer and explains Levi Colwill decision

Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel has confirmed the signing of Marc Cucurella, who is at Cobham ahead of the completion of the transfer.

Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel has confirmed the signing of Marc Cucurella and revealed that Levi Colwill is set to join Brighton and Hove Albion on loan.

The 24-year-old has been heavily linked with a switch to Stamford Bridge this summer.

The latest reports have stated that Cucurella is expected to be announced as a Chelsea player on Friday after completing his medical on Thursday following a fee being agreed with Brighton.

The deal will cost Chelsea an initial £55 million plus £7 million in add-ons as they appear to have finally sealed the deal to bring the Spaniard to the club.

Marcos Alonso could be granted an exit once Cucurella is announced, with it believed that Barcelona are closing in on a deal for Chelsea’s wing-back.

Chelsea head coach Tuchel has confirmed Cucurella’s incoming, admitting that the arrival will allow the possibility of Colwill joining the Seagulls on loan.

Speaking in his pre-Everton press conference ahead of the Premier League season kicking off, Tuchel said:  “It’s not done yet. I don’t want to tell you that I know nothing. The paperwork is in process and hopefully we can get it finished before noon and Marc is our player.”

The German continued to outline what Cucurella will bring to his side, stating: “He is a fantastic, young player. Hungry, mobile, very intelligent player.

“Can play several positions in our system, that’s why we hope the transfer goes through and then if it goes through, it opens some options like for Levi Colwill to maybe find some more game time elsewhere.”

Tuchel continued to discuss Colwill and admitted that the 19-year-old was unfortunate in pre-season to not be handed more game time as he looks set for a loan to Graham Potter’s side.

“It’s a bit hard to judge him. He came back, there was not a lot of game time in pre-season to give to him because of a little injury in training,” Tuchel continued.

“We think the situation is the situation, it is always very individual.

"If there is a possibility for him to have a good loan or a situation where he can develop and improve, we are open to any talks and solutions.”

Nizaar Kineslla of The Evening Standard continued to reveal that Cucurella could feature against Everton if his signing is registered by noon on Friday, the cut-off for players to sign and be available for selection for Saturday’s fixtures.

The journalist revealed: “Cucurella is at Cobham and it is a bit of a race against time to get him ready for Everton.

"He could even do the last session today before they travel up.”

It remains to be seen as to whether the 24-year-old will feature when the Blues play at Goodison Park, with just over 24 hours until the match.
