Fofana, Hudson-Odoi, Gordon: Chelsea closing in on triple transfer decision ahead of September deadline

Fofana, Hudson-Odoi, Gordon: Chelsea closing in on triple transfer decision ahead of September deadline

The latest on the futures of Wesley Fofana, Callum Hudson-Odoi and Anthony Gordon.

With just over a week to go until the summer transfer window, Chelsea and Thomas Tuchel still have lots more to do to shape the squad as incomings and outgoings are eyed at Stamford Bridge.

Chelsea have already made six signings this summer: Raheem Sterling, Kalidou Koulibaly, Carney Chukwuemeka, Gabriel Slonina, Marc Cucurella and Cesare Casadei have all arrived.

Meanwhile, many exits have been finalised. Romelu Lukaku (loan) and Timo Werner have departed, while Emerson Palmieri completed his £15 million move to West Ham.

Tuchel wants more, Chelsea want more, after their mixed start to the season which has seen them collect four points from their opening three Premier League matches (W1, D1, L1).

Plenty of futures still need to be resolved with interest coming from across the world for several Blues players and there has been developments of three high-profile names linked with moves to and away from Chelsea.

Wesley Fofana

Chelsea have wanted a centre-back all summer. They got Koulibaly but the Leicester City star has been a prime target for Tuchel and co.

They have had three bids rejected - £50 and 60 million, before a £70 million offer was knocked back immediately this week

Fofana wants to join Chelsea despite signing a new five-year deal with Leicester back in March, however he is now starting to try to force the situation.

After being left out of the squad to face Southampton last weekend, Rodgers confirmed following their win over Stockport County in the Carabao Cup on Tuesday night that Fofana was now training with the Development Squad after missing training last week.

He said: “There’s an offer gone in and it’s been rejected. It’ll be the club’s decision which is ultimately over my head. Clubs need to find an agreement. From a football perspective, if it happens the sooner the better because it may allow us to do some work. The valuation needs to be met for (Leicester owner) Top and the other board members.

"He’s not training with the first team, he’s with the U23s to get his football fitness. It’s important to control any distractions. I can only use players who have full commitment. Until then he trains with the U23s."

Callum Hudson-Odoi

The 21-year-old wants to leave Chelsea this summer and appears to have got his wish. After around 20 clubs showed interest in the winger, Bayer Leverkusen look set to win the race, as per reports

Hudson-Odoi is close to joining the Bundesliga side on loan for the 2022/23 campaign. He is in advanced talks with them.

No deal is done yet but there is confidence and optimism from all parties that he will seal a temporary switch to Germany for this season.

Anthony Gordon

With Hudson-Odoi soon to be leaving and another Fofana move being considered, Chelsea are still working on other deals and one of those is Gordon from Everton

Interest has started to advance and an offer of £50 million plus £10 million in add-ons is on the table. Gordon is ready to make the move, believing that a switch will allow him to play Champions League football and give him a greater chance of making England’s 2022 World Cup squad later this year.

Whether or not a move will materialise before the deadline remains to be seen.

Everton boss Frank Lampard provided an update on the youngster’s future at Goodison Park on Tuesday night, saying: "He’s our player, everyone knows of Chelsea’s interest, we have a good relationship, ideally (a quick resolution to the situation) or we carry on and he’s our player."
