Why Gabriel Jesus Would Be A Smarter Signing For Chelsea Than Raheem Sterling

Why Gabriel Jesus Would Be A Smarter Signing For Chelsea Than Raheem Sterling

if Chelsea could only land one of Sterling and Jesus, who should it be?

The race is on for a new attacking threat for Chelsea with the Blues linked with several options going forward, particularly Manchester City pair Raheem Sterling and Gabriel Jesus.

The need for one is very important, so it seems likely that Chelsea will have to prioritise one over the other, which should come down to one simple choice: Gabriel Jesus.

The Blues have had plenty of luck with Brazilians in the past and have barely missed when it comes to pursuing them. Jesus has age on his side, being just 25-years-old, while Sterling is 27 years of age and looks to be past his best form.

Chelsea also need a striker more importantly right now than any other position on the pitch with the Manchester City frontman being a no-brainer at this point. Jesus scored 13 goals and assisted his teammates a further 12 times in just 41 appearances all season across all competitions.

His strike rate speaks for itself, he’s proven at Premier League level and would come at a fair price of around Β£43 million. His profile to be a leading target man and interchange between a false nine or winger give him all the tools to become an even greater success at Chelsea.

If the club were to pursue Sterling instead, it would have negative ramifications on the possible signing of Ousmane Dembele, who would come on a free and have much less pressure of competing, whilst still having the ability to take the Blues to the very top once again.

Romelu Lukaku seems to be on the way out after failing to live up to his record-breaking fee. A new era beckons for Chelsea with new profiles needed. Jesus is unlike the likes of Lukaku, Alvaro Morata and Timo Werner and would bring a new dimension to the Blues fold.

Thomas Tuchel seems to be a fan of Jesus, according to reports, while this could also be the start of a new understanding between Chelsea and City, with the pair possibly striking a few more deals in the future.

The Sky Blues have been a giant of the game in recent years, and emulating their success is something Chelsea dream of in the Premier League. For Jesus, getting into the team is an achievement on its own, so to have the career that he has had under Pep Guardiola thus far has to be considered.

With Todd Boehly and Clearlake Capital ready to back the boss this summer, which is officially now open, using the funds sparingly in key positions can afford Chelsea the luxury and making multiple marquee signings this window in hope of achieving their goals and claiming some silverware in the upcoming campaign.
