Todd Boehly 'Planning On Cobham Training Ground Change' To Allow Chelsea Players To Focus On Football

Todd Boehly 'Planning On Cobham Training Ground Change' To Allow Chelsea Players To Focus On Football

Chelsea co-owner Todd Boehly is planning to make a change at the Cobham training ground to allow the players to focus on football.

Chelsea co-owner Todd Boehly is planning to make a change at the Cobham training ground to allow the players to focus on football, it has been reported.

The American was recently named as Chelsea Chairman after the Boehly-Clearlake Capital consortium took control of the club, succeeding Roman Abramovich.

The co-owner has already made several changes behind the scenes since arriving at the club.

Marina Granovskaia has departed her role as director, with Chairman Bruce Buck also leaving his role at the end of the month.

The Chairman is set to hand power to Thomas Tuchel in the transfer window, with the summer plans outlined by the Telegraph in recent reports.

"The key is to basically work with Tuchel to come up with the best players that are available,” a senior source told The Telegraph this week.

"We really want to make sure we have a good defence. We've got depth in midfield. We're not desperate for an out-and-out striker.

“Fortunately, there's reasonable opportunities in the market right now in order to satisfy the fans' desire to be competitive.”

Therefore, the Blues are set to dip into the transfer market with several names linked.

However, Boehly is also planning off-the-field changes as he looks to give Tuchel’s side an extra edge ahead of the new season.

The Athletic have now reported that Boehly wants the training ground at Cobham to be used less for commercial activity so the players can concentrate on their football.

Despite this, the Athletic continues to report that making money is still a focus.

The consortium felt that Abramovich did not ‘fully maximise the potential marketing’ that the Blues could make abroad.

They still wish to build the club into an even bigger brand, despite the latest decision.

Boehly believes that English football remains ‘undeveloped’ as he discussed the opportunity to expand the brand at the SuperReturn International conference.

He said: “We think the global footprint of this sport is really undeveloped. There are four billion fans of European football. There are 170 million fans of NFL. Global club football is a fraction of the NFL media money.

“We are also going to be thinking about, how do we get more revenues for the players? If you look at LeBron James, for example, he has a whole business and a whole team dedicated to what’s not on the court.

“So I think there is opportunity to capture some of that American mentality into English sports and really develop them.”

It remains to be seen as to how the American will look to develop Chelsea’s brand.

It is clear that he is keen to ensure that there are less commercial activities at Cobham going into the new season as he looks for silverware next season.
