WWE fans have passionately defended Eddie Guerrero on social media after a shocking tweet regarding his legacy went viral.

Guerrero is regarded as one of wrestling's greatest and he died in November 2005, aged 38.

He was still active at the time and fans were left rocked by his death - which ended a career far too soon.

Some users on Twitter have since claimed 'Latino Heat' is only looked at so fondly because of his tragic death.

One user tweeted: "Eddie Guerrero was a B+ player at best and people only hold him in such high regard because he is dead."

While another added: "He wasn't popular with anyone at the time. Only after he died."

The comments have received massive backlash and fans across the world managed to get Guerrero trending on Monday.

Legends such as Mick Foley also weighed in on the debate and slammed anyone trying to dismiss Guerrero's talent in the ring.

Guerrero entered the WWE Hall of Fame in 2006, just a few months after his death.

The standout moment of his career came at No Way Out 2004, when he defeated Brock Lesnar to win his only WWE Championship.

Other notable championships include the Intercontinental title as well as Tag Title runs with nephew Chavo Guerrero and close friend Rey Mysterio.

Guerrero lied, cheated, and stole his way into the hearts of wrestling fans and they'll remember his work forever.
