WWE star Drew McIntyre fired a savage dig at Wayne Rooney as the Manchester United legend sat ringside.

On Friday night, wrestling took over London as WWE Live took place at the O2 Arena.

Apart from McIntyre, the likes of Cody Rhodes and Natalya were also present at the event.

Joining Rooney, Anthony Joshua was the other big name from the sporting world to attend the show.

During the event, McIntyre couldn’t help but aim a savage dig towards Rooney as the former United and England captain watched on from ringside.

As reported by the Daily Mail, he said: “We're two British icons, I'm only British WWE champion three times. He's smashed football but aren't we the same age?

“What happened to you?”.

As the crowd burst into laughter, Rooney looked on with a smile on his face.

This is not the first time Rooney has been involved in a WWE event.

Back in 2015, Rooney slapped Briton Wade Barrett at the Manchester Arena.

As Rooney sat in the front row with his son Kai, Barrett took the microphone and said: “In this ring are two men who can be easily be described as championship material. Which is, of course, is more than can be said of Wayne Rooney and Manchester United.”

Barrett then went to confront Rooney but the then-United star knocked him down in dramatic fashion.

Speaking in February, Rooney responded to rumours of a career in boxing with Misfits.

He said: “You never know. No, they’ve been in touch and asked the question, but I think at the minute I want to focus on getting back into management – not boxing.

“There’s been a few. Obviously Misifts have been in, and that’s been all over the news or whatever, but listen: I want to focus on getting back into management. That’s my focus.”

Rooney added: “I’ve seen all [the headlines] over the last couple of days, but my main focus is getting back into football.”
