Manchester United Scouts In Attendance To Watch Premier League Star

Manchester United Scouts In Attendance To Watch Premier League Star

Manchester United scouts attended Denmark vs Austria on Monday after reports suggest Erik ten Hag is interested in Denmark's playmaker.

Manchester United scouts were confirmed to be in attendance for Denmark's Nations League fixture against Ralf Rangnick's Austria on Monday evening.

The former United interim manager was due to start his consultancy role this summer, but instead has parted ways with the club after taking on the role of Austria's national team manager.

The scouts in attendance were announced by Paul O Keefe on Twitter, with Tottenham and West Ham scouts joining United's to watch the encounter, amongst others.

The game ended in a 2-1 win for Denmark, where goals from Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg and Jens Stryger Larsen were enough to secure the three points on the night.

After reports elsewhere suggested that Erik ten Hag wanted to bring former Ajax man Christian Eriksen to Old Trafford, it is likely that he was being closely watched during this affair.

He was one of the better performers on the evening and assisted the winning goal late in the game with a simple pass to his left. Larsen finished brilliantly from the edge of the box.

The Denmark international joined Brentford in the January transfer window last season, just seven months after suffering a cardiac arrest during a game at Euro 2020.

His return to the Premier League was one of excellence. He was a standout for the London-based side and provided a masterclass midfield performance against the Red Devils at Old Trafford last month, despite losing the match.

Available on a free transfer this summer, a move for the talented playmaker makes complete sense for United. They'd be getting a player who can clearly still cut it in England's finest division and one that would barely dent their summer transfer budget.

The poor recent form of Bruno Fernandes, who was excellent in his first two years at United, also means that added competition in the number ten role can only be good for the team.

Eriksen also operated from the flanks regularly under Mauricio Pochettino at Spurs, this would be another bonus for United, who are relatively light on the wings with Mason Greenwood's suspension from football and Anthony Martial's likely departure from the club.

United are also losing experienced players this summer, with Juan Mata already confirmed to leave.

Eriksen would be an upgrade on the pitch, but also a good replacement off it too, with the know-how of the league to help the younger individuals in the squad.

His Ajax connections could also be a factor in Ten Hag wanting his service, whether it be through recommendations from people at the club or enquiring himself.

The 30-year-old spent three years at the Eredivisie club in his younger years before he moved onto Tottenham in 2013.
