Rating each of Manchester United's summer signings (2022/23)

Rating each of Manchester United's summer signings (2022/23)

United signed six players in the summer transfer window.

After signing two players on deadline day, Manchester United have added six players to Erik ten Hag's squad this summer.

Reinforcements were needed, and more will be necessary in the windows to come, but there have been some impressive additions so far at United under the new manager.

We will be rating each individual player that the club have signed this summer. The ratings will be based on three different aspects: quality, suitability and price.

Rating each of Manchester United's summer signings (2022/23)

Tyrell Malacia - 9/10

The Netherlands defender is definitely one of the smartest deals United have done recently. For less than £15 million the Reds have got an extremely energetic left-back, who has impressive quality, but is also still developing.

Whilst the position was not one that United desperately needed to strengthen in compared to others, with Luke Shaw's injury issues last term there needed to be a better competitor for the Englishman. Malacia has already displaced him from the line-up this season.

He is comfortable playing out and has impressive composure for his age. He still has much to improve, but also has the perfect attitude to progress with.

Christian Eriksen - 9/10

Coming in on a free transfer with tons of quality to add to United's midfield, it seemed like a no-brainer to bring Eriksen in.

He's adopted a deeper position than many originally thought and might not be a long term solution there, but he adds important depth to a midfield that was desperate for it.

We have already seen snippets of his creativity in the final third, despite playing in that deeper position. It's clear that he's going to be a very useful player for a few years.

Lisandro Martinez - 9/10

The Butcher has came into the United defence and brought aggression out of possession and great quality in it. He will be vital to Ten Hag's long term plan, where United will build from the back and control games.

His passing quality and range is a delight and he reads the game very well. Despite concerns from some about his height, it's very clear that Martinez will offer so much to the team going forward.

Whilst his price tag was on the heavy side, looking at his character and ability, it's hard to say that it wasn't a very good deal for United.

Casemiro - 8/10

United have bagged themselves one of the best defensive midfielders in world football across the last seven years. It's a position that they have needed to reinforce for far too long.

It is a steep price tag, with a long term contract, which could leave the club in a sticky situation in a few years time if Casemiro begins to decline.

However, the deal is still a very good one and while signing another midfielder to play next to him would've been ideal, this is still a great deal altogether.

Antony - 7/10

This is the most exciting deal of the lot for many. A talented left-footed right winger has been extinct at Old Trafford for so long and United finally have their man.

His desire and mentality seems very impressive and there is so much to like about his playstyle.

However, for over £80 million, it is still a risky signing, with Antony being just 22-years-old and yet to play in Europe outside of the Eredivisie.

Under Ten Hag, he will likely develop and impress for many years to come, but with a price tag that large comes expectations. Luckily, it seems like he is ready for that.

Martin Dubravka - 7/10

This deal is in the unknown right now. It seems that this deal has been made to give David de Gea some competition, as he still looks to struggle playing out of the back, which is Ten Hag's preferred style.

Dubravka has not played this way for a number of years at Newcastle, but there is previous evidence that he can do this in his earlier years. The question is whether he can still play like this.

However, if not then United have not wasted much, with the deal being a loan move. But, if he impresses, then United could end up making it a permanent transfer since they have an obligation to buy for £6 million if he appears a certain number of times in the Premier League.

He could then be a solid back-up to another goalkeeper who is signed. It is a signing that makes financial sense, but there is a question of whether he can truly offer what De Gea lacks in.
