Confirmed Manchester United line-ups vs Liverpool: Raphael Varane starts as Cristiano Ronaldo benched

Manchester United's line-up to face Liverpool in the Premier League has been confirmed.

Manchester United will face off against Liverpool in the Premier League.

Both sides are yet to win a fixture this season, with Manchester United losing to both Brighton and Brentford as Liverpool drew to both Crystal Palace and Fulham.

The sides have met before since Erik ten Hag took over, with United triumphing 4-0 over Liverpool during pre-season.

That fixture saw Anthony Martial, Jadon Sancho, Fred and Facundo Pellistri score their first goals under the Dutch boss.

Anthony Martial is yet to feature in the Premier League this season due to an injury, but is set to start on the bench against Liverpool as he makes his much-anticipated return to Old Trafford.

Raphael Varane comes in to replace captain Harry Maguire in the XI, with Bruno Fernandes carrying the armband.

Speaking to the media ahead of the clash, Ten Hag said: "There is a clear reason why (Manchester United’s form is poor). But I know we will fix that and I know that we will be better and the results will show this. It has been shown in pre-season."

"We had a good basic pre-season, but then our No.9 Martial was injured and Ronny not fit," he detailed.

"The 'six' in holding midfield is not there. First game, we had two in defence who had never played with each other and the goalkeeper was also not the best in this period."

Talking about the leaders in his dressing room, he stressed: "When the attitude is not good from a team then often the leaders are not there. They are the ones who can give the example and go in front, this is clear. Also, this is another point we have to work on.

"I always work with a group of leaders, not just one in particular. I spoke with the leaders about this issue we have, yes."
