Manchester United Expect Striker Target Brian Brobbey To Join Ajax This Summer

Ten Hag's target is not likely to join the Reds.

Brian Brobbey has emerged as an Erik ten Hag target over the last days, but it remains likely that he makes a permanent switch to Ajax this summer, according to reports.

The Netherlands international has popped on as an option upfront for Manchester United in recent days.

This comes in the wake of news suggesting that Cristiano Ronaldo has asked to leave the club.

Since then, reports have suggested that a forward is United's next priority.

Brobbey worked under Ten Hag in Ajax's first team in the last two campaigns. He has played 32 matches for the Eredivisie side.

Strangely, after rising through the academy in Amsterdam, the striker moved to German club RB Leipzig on a free transfer at the start of last season.

After accumulating just one start in the first half of the Bundesliga season, Brobbey made the switch back to Ajax in January and worked under Ten Hag until he left for United at the end of the season.

Reports in the last days have suggested that the forward and Ten Hag spoke on the phone and the United manager was interested in bringing him to Old Trafford.

This was touted to be for a fee of around €15 million, which is a very affordable price.

However, latest reports say that moving permanently back to Ajax is still the likely option for the player.

A number of English journalists have said that United expect Brobbey to return to Ajax on a transfer.

United are likely to target strikers elsewhere, especially if Ronaldo does end up leaving the club.

It could also be wise for the Reds to steer clear of the Ajax target if they want the Dutch club to eventually let Lisandro Martinez go to Manchester.

United have placed a €50m bid, including add-ons, for the defender.

While someone like Anthony Martial could be given a chance as the centre forward at Old Trafford, an addition is a likelier scenario.

United made their first signing of the summer earlier this week, with Tyrell Malacia joining from Feyenoord.

Ten Hag has since explained the left-back's traits, and will be eager to add to the Dutchman with further back-up from the transfer market.
