With the transfer window now open in England, excitement around incomings at Manchester United has plagued fans worldwide.
United fans are commonly known to fall victim to torrid transfer sagas which extend towards the near end of the window. It now seems that this stigma will carry on for the Red Devils, as failure of achieving Champions league qualification has left United at a disadvantage when negotiating for transfers.
Following numerous reports online the players Manchester United look to acquire are those of a high profile. With suggestions of players United are pursuing with Frenkie De Jong, Jurrien Timber, Pau Torres, Alessandro Bastoni, Christopher Nkunku, Darwin Nunez, and many others.
The main obstacle for all these players is the fact they are already playing in teams qualified for Champions league football.

Before the transfer window even opened, the disadvantage of Champions League football was displayed for Manchester United with forward target Darwin Nunez looking all but likely to join Liverpool with the player reaching a verbal agreement on personal terms with Liverpool, as reported by David Ornstein of The Athletic.

With Darwin Nunez snubbing the Red devils for a move to Liverpool, it brings up the question of; If Manchester United had qualified for the Champions league, would the club have signed Darwin Nunez?
Another example of failure to qualify for the Champions league affecting transfer negotiations, is the current process of acquiring Frenkie de Jong. The main obstacle in regards to signing Frenkie De Jong is due to the players' want and desire to play in the Champions league.

With Manchester United missing out on Champions League qualification it seems all but unlikely that United would be able to convince the Dutch international to join the Red Devils.
With Frenkie de Jong’s recent comments during an interview away with the Dutch international team, he displayed his desire to stay at the Camp Nou by quoting “what I'm saying, there is absolutely nothing of an agreement or anything official... At the moment there is no question of it at all” while also referring to Barcelona as his ‘Dream club.’
While Frenkie De Jong’s desire to continue at Barcelona may be evident, behind the scenes of the football giant lies an economic crisis which may force the Dutchman out of the club this transfer window.
With the hope of bringing in new players as well as registering the free agents Barcelona have secured, it has been reported that Xavi himself has assumed the departure of Frenkie De Jong.

Due to the failure of the Champions league affecting a player of being convinced of the long-term project at Manchester United, many fans have asked the question of; Why should Manchester United need to convince a player that does not want to play for the club?
Unfortunately, the truth is that these players have every right to not be convinced of playing for Manchester United. With the 21/22 Premier league season statistically being Manchester United’s lowest point tally at the topflight of English football, the view of joining the Football giant will not be appealing to any player with ambitions of winning silverware.
Fortunately for the Red devils, the one man they were able to convince was Erik Ten Hag. With the former Ajax manager displaying the ability to rebuild and compete at the top level in Europe, the long-term plan for the Red devils are heading in the right direction.

With Manchester United having an in-house clear out seeing the old regime which failed to get United back to the glory days now out the door, it is clear to see there is a new era incoming at the Theatre of Dreams.
The key to going into transfer negotiations now will be the ability to present a long-term vision for footballers competing in European competitions. As difficult as it may be, Manchester United have gone the right way by acquiring Erik ten Hag in its attempt to rebuild the squad next season.
After a torrid season, the contract renewal of Bruno Fernandes indicates that there is a long-term plan to get the Red Devils back to their glory days, competing with the absolute best amongst Europe...
But only time will tell.
