Khabib Nurmagomedov Launches Fresh Attack On UFC Rival Conor McGregor

Khabib Nurmagomedov has aimed a dig at UFC rival Conor McGregor by claiming that Dustin Poirier was "far tougher" than the Irish star.

The Russian phenom defended his UFC lightweight crown by submitting Poirier and he's taken a swipe at McGregor following his victory in Abu Dhabi.

He said that Poirier turned out to be a lot tougher than McGregor, who was also defeated by Nurmagomedov via submission.

"Poirier is physically strong. I didn't expect him to be that slithery," said the 28-0 fighter.

"I was well prepared for his guillotine choke and even allowed him to grab neck making him spend his energy and power. But I needed to recapture the initiative. Poirier turned out to be a very serious opponent, by far tougher than McGregor."

While Nurmagomedov has no interest in rematching McGregor, his UFC 242 opponent wants to run it back with the ex-'Champ-Champ' following their first encounter back in 2014.

"I think me and Conor running it back makes a lot of sense at this point," he wrote on Twitter.

McGregor, though, furiously responded to Poirier's call out.

"I fed you to the canvas in 90 seconds bro. You should have spoke my name with a bit more respect in that build up. "McGregor's not next" Motherfucker, it's McGregor always! McGregor is the goal! Always! Say that now and I'll think about it. #GoneIn90seconds #NicCage #AJolie," he posted on Twitter.

McGregor and Poirier first fought at UFC 178, when both fighters were competing in the featherweight division.

The 31-year-old Dublin man won the bout via a devastating first round TKO at UFC 178 before becoming the champion of the weight class.
