Conor McGregor has dropped down to twelfth place in the UFC pound-for-pound rankings having not won a fight for three years.

McGregor, 31, was previously ranked eleventh, before being overtaken by women's flyweight champion Valentina Shevchenko.

Of course, the former UFC 'champ-champ' hasn't fought since his devastating defeat to Khabib Nurmagomedov last October and hasn't won a bout inside the famed Octagon since November 2016.

McGregor continues to tease a return to the UFC with hints on social media. He recently uploaded an interesting message on social media regarding his comeback.

He shared a picture of himself in Reebok clothing, accompanied with the words: "Gearing up for my next challenge".

His coach, meanwhile, wants him to face Frankie Edgar on his UFC return.

"I think him, and Frankie Edgar would be a great fight," said John Kavanagh.

"I think it was in the works when Conor was kind of going on that featherweight tear. He's an ex-champion, great fighter. Yeah, if it was me, I would love to see the Frankie Edgar fight this year if possible. And then go on another run in 2020.

"Frankie has a style that's very difficult to deal with. But it's also one we're somewhat familiar with. Even from his first fight with [Marcus] Brimage.

"This small, fast guy, quick hands, wrestling. But Frankie's just been in there with everybody. World champion, beaten legends like B.J. Penn and so on. I just think that's a great match for the fans and for me. I'd love to see it."
