Floyd Mayweather appeared to announce a rematch with Conor McGregor this year with a cryptic Instagram post.

The 42-year-old American got fight fans excited with what looked to be a fight poster with the words 'Mayweather McGregor 2 2020' along with a list of promoters.

There was no date or venue on the mocked up poster and it could just be Mayweather being mischievous.

But a rematch between the pair after they last fought in 2017 could be on the cards now McGregor is fighting again.

The 31-year-old Irishman ended his 15-month break from the UFC by brushing aside Donald Cerrone on Saturday night.

McGregor knocked out 'Cowboy' inside 40 seconds at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas on Saturday night.

It was a dramatic return to fighting that put McGregor back on the radar for big fights in 2020.

He has been linked with clashes against Jorge Masvidal or Nate Diaz in the octagon and was this week also asked about taking on Manny Pacquiao in the ring.

McGregor said: "The Manny Pacquiao talks are ongoing.

"An aspiration of mine now is to win a boxing world title. I think that would be a phenomenal feather in the cap and something I look to achieve in the future. And something I will achieve."

Now, though, it looks like a second bout with Mayweather could be on the cards.

Mayweather had no trouble in beating McGregor in the ring in 2017 and would be heavy favourite if they squared off again.
