Conor McGregor returned to the octagon in devastating style by brushing aside Donald Cerrone in Las Vegas.

The 31-year-old Irishman destroyed Cerrone in 40 seconds in his first UFC bout for 15 months since his defeat by Khabib Nurmagomedov.

A stunning head kick and left hand from McGregor left Cerrone on the ropes early on, and the referee called off the bout very early.

It was McGregor's first win since knocking out Eddie Alvarez in November 2016 and the second fastest of his career.

The stars came out to watch 'The Notorious's' return to fighting with the likes of Tyson Fury, Tom Brady and rapper Ludacris all in attendance.

McGregor has struggled with personal problems away from the octagon but put those behind him to beat Cerrone.

His emotion was clear for all to see as he collapsed to his knees after the rapid victory over Cerrone at T-Mobile Arena.

He could fight BMF champion Jorge Masvidal next while a rematch with Khabib might also be on the cards.

McGregor said: "I'm the first fighter in UFC history to secure a knockout victory at featherweight, lightweight and welterweight. I'm very, very happy. I'm very proud.

"I'm so happy. Who's going up and down divisions and knocking people out like that? I've etched my name in history once again.

"I like this weight division, I feel really good. I don't believe I'm there yet, though, I've still got some work to do to get back to where I was."
