UFC make six more cuts in another ruthless Dana White move

Dana White has continued his trend of brutally cutting UFC fighters in recent months, with another six fighters taken off the roster.

In the early hours of Sunday morning, the UFC will host another of its major events as the popular Islam Makhachev will defend his welterweight championship title against No. 2 contender Ian Machado Garry.

UFC 330, taking place in the Xfinity Mobile Arena in Philadelphia, will also see Gillian Robertson challenge women's strawweight champion Mackenzie Dern in the co-main event.

Ahead of the event, fighters from across the card and UFC president and CEO White have been carrying out various media duties to build hype for what promises to be one of the best fights this summer.

However, excitement for the event has been dulled by the news that the UFC has decided to further trim down its roster as several veteran fighters have been cut from the promotion.

Throughout his time as UFC boss, White has shown that he's not afraid to cut fighters that are either not performing well enough, or are not causing enough excitement with fans due to their styles or behaviour outside of the octagon.

And this is no exception, with the removal of Jessie Rosas perhaps the most brutal given the fact that the Mexican fighter never actually got to fight in the UFC after his debut against Miles Johns was called off after doctors pulled him out for a scratch on his forehead.

"So as you guys know I was forced to pull out due to a glove scratch on the forehead," Rosas wrote on Instagram after his fight earlier this month was called of.

"I tried doing everything in my hands to try to keep this fight even got approved by two different doctors, but at the end of the day the UFC doctor has the last call."

It's unclear what exactly led to the termination of Rosas' deal, but it remains possible that he could make a UFC return sometime in the future if he continues to add wins to 8-1 record.

Perhaps less unlucky is Stewart Nicoll, who, despite facing difficult opponents during his UFC run, didn't win a single fight in his four appearances.

Cody Gibson is another fighter who has likely been cut for his poor run of form, with the 38-year-old losing each of his last three fights in his second stint in the UFC, taking his overall record in the organisation to 3-8.

Bekzat Almakhan is another fighter to have been cut in this latest wave after going 1-3 in his first four fights in the UFC, with his removal from the roster likely simply being the end of a typical four-fight UFC deal given to newcomers.

But, at just 28 years old, it's possible that Almakhan, who scored a knockdown against Umar Nurmagomedov in 2024, could find his way back to the UFC in the future.

Having not fought since June 2024, it's been reported that Shayilan Nuerdanbieke had been asking to be released from his UFC contract and it appears he has got his wish, as the 3-3 fighter is also on the list of roster cuts.

The final, and least surprising, removal is Hailey Cowan, who recently announced her retirement from MMA after going 0-4 in the UFC,
