Money In The Bank: Betting Preview

We preview this year's WWE Money in the Bank PPV.

This year's Money in the Bank pay-per-view looks set to be a classic, with a host of great matches. WWE are billing it as 'the greatest Money in the Bank pay-per-view' of all-time and constantly mentioned that several of the bouts on the card are Wrestlemania calibre.

It looks set to be an enthralling night of wrestling, spearheaded by three headlined matches: the dream match between AJ Styles and John Cena, the WWE World Heavyweight Championship match between former Shield brothers Roman Reigns and Seth Rollins, and finally the selling point of the show - the Money in the Bank ladder match, where the winner gets a title shot whenever they want.

The pre-show mainly consists of filler matches, with two tag team contests; the Lucha Dragons taking on veterans the Dudley Boyz, while the Golden Truth will square off against Breezeango. There's no real investment in these matches and there doesn't appear to be any appealing betting odds for them either.

You could argue the same for two of the undercard matches on the main show. First, the exciting Apollo Crews (2/9) will lock horns with Sheamus (11/4) - who appears to have a problem with Crews and the new era of WWE. Expect the newer man to get the rub in his first pay-per-view match.

Dolph Ziggler and Baron Corbin have wrestled eachother about 345 times since the latter man arrived on the main roster, winning the Andre the Giant Memorial Battle Royal in his first match. This match at Money in the Bank should be their last and again it should be the newcomer who emerges victorious.

In women's action, we have a tag team match between Natalya and Becky Lynch (15/8) and Women's Champion Charlotte along with her accomplice Dana Brooke (4/11). My guess is that the latter team will prevail, before a more high-profile programme comes along going into Summerslam.

Then we get into the matches that you can actually win some money on. The Bulgarian Brute Rusev defends his United States Championship against Titus O'Neil. The Champion is undoubtedly the clear favourite at 1/6, while you can get 7/2 on O'Neil winning the strap. In all fairness, there's surely no way of Rusev losing.

Next up is the four-way WWE World Tag Team Championship match, between the New Day, The Club, Enzo and Big Cass and the Vaudevillains. It promises to be a fast, explosive match. The champions, the New Day are 1/10 to retain their belts, while the Club are 7/2 and may be worth a point. At 18/1, Enzo and Cass could be a good bet, having seen how quickly they have transcended on the main roster. The final team, the Vaudevillains are 50/1 and there's little to suggest they will win the gold.

AJ Styles vs John Cena is a match 15 years in the making and it happens for the first time in Las Vegas on Sunday. The face of WWE vs the face of independent wrestling will be a joy to watch - this is the match that fans are most excited for. Interestingly, big match John is not the favourite to win, with odds of 9/2. In addition, his opponent Styles is 1/8 to get the win. Cena remains the face of the company but his current role means he does not need to be beating guys left, right and centre. That means a win for AJ Styles win is very likely - as reflected in the odds. But regardless of the result, this will be electric.

The Money in the Bank Ladder Match brings the best possibilities for a bet because six men have a legitimate chance of winning. Dean Ambrose is the current favourite at 2/9 and he has already teased the possibility of winning the briefcase and cashing in during the main event of the show. Kevin Owens remains one of the most entertaining acts in WWE and everything about the Money in the Bank concept fits his character perfectly; you can get him at 3/1 to win.

His fellow Canadian Chris Jericho is responsible for creating the Money in the Bank match but has never won the match himself, despite his best efforts. Jericho has been brilliant since returning in January and is 9/1 to win on Sunday.

The Swiss Superman Cesaro may be the best in-ring wrestler WWE currently have in their ranks and while it's great to see him in this match-up, he may not be ready just yet to be a main event player and he is 20/1 to win. Fan favourite Sami Zayn is 25/1, but with him being the plucky, loveable underdog, him cashing in on a damaged Champion doesn't really make much sense.

I would be very tempted to place a bet on Alberto Del Rio to win, even though he is the least likely to win. You can get odds of 33/1 for him to unhook the briefcase. Del Rio is the only one in the match who has won and successfully cashed in the Money in the Bank contract and though it doesn't make too much sense, similarly to last year's winner Sheamus, it would not surprise me if he was the one to win the match.

Finally, we have the eagerly anticipated main event for the coveted WWE World Heavyweight Championship. Roman Reigns is the most protected guy in WWE and he is yet to lose clean; Vince McMahon sees him as the future face of the company. Reigns is 1/8 to return. However, Seth Rollins still gets better reactions than him even though he is being portrayed as the bad guy and with his red-hot return, it would be disappointing for him to lose his first match. He is 9/2 to win back the title that he never lost.

Thus, it seems as if we will see some sort of shenanigans to close out what should be an enjoyable night of wrestling.
