However, in the women's draw, there was chaos as 2023 Wimbledon champion Marketa Vondrousova was forced to withdraw from the tournament before taking to court against world number one Aryna Sabalenka.

Explaining her decision to pull out, Vondrousova said in a statement: "I am sorry to announce that I have to withdraw from my quarter-final match this evening due to a knee injury.

"I tried my best to take the court today but during the warm-up I felt again my knee and after consultation with the tournament doctor decided not to risk aggravating the injury.
"I appreciate all the support this tournament and apologise to the fans who were looking forward to the match. I had an amazing time here in New York and can’t wait to be back next year."
In a video posted on social media, Vondrousova could be seen struggling as she took to the practice courts and had to be comforted by members of her team. You can watch the footage below.
As a result of Vondrousova's withdrawal, Sabalenka goes straight into the semi-final, where she will take on American Jessica Pegula, who beat Barbora Krejcikova 6-3, 6-3 in the last eight.
