Thanasi Kokkinakis awkwardly fumes at reporter after being mistaken for Nick Kyrgios

“That is firing, that’s you done. Off you get. I’m gonna can that. That’s s**thouse from you.”

Thanasi Kokkinakis wasn't best pleased after being mistaken for his fellow countryman and good friend Nick Kyrgios.

The Aussie was chatting to the media after booking his spot in the second round of the Australian Open, beating former world No.9 Fabio Fognini in straight sets.

He now faces British fan favourite Andy Murray in what promises to be box office entertainment.

During a press conference following his victory over Fognini, Kokkinakis couldn't quite believe his ears when a journalist accidentally referred to him as “Nick”.

Clearly mistaking Kokkinakis for his doubles partner Nick Kyrgios, the reporter quickly back-tracked and attempted to correct himself – but it was too little, too late.

“Wow. That is firing, that’s you done,” Kokkinakis fired back.

“Off you get. I’m gonna can that. That’s s**thouse from you.”

When the next journo called him by his actual name, Kokkinakis joked: “You’ve already done better”.

Kokkinakis did well to play it off, but you could see his frustrations bubbly away underneath the surface.

While Kokkinakis is arguably most famous for his Australian Open doubles victory alongside Kyrgios, he is beginning to pave his own path in the singles tour and a win over three-time grand slam champion Murray would be huge for the 26-year-old.

That said, even Kyrgios himself wasn't going to let the journalist's blunder slide.

Taking to social media, Kyrgios re-shared the clip, captioning it: “Kyriakis”.

Kokkinakis did the same, saying: “Taking the absolute piss”.

With Kyrgios pulling out fo the tournament with injury, the "Special K's" won't get the opportunity to defend their Australian Open doubles title, unfortunately.
