Five percent of British people believe they'd beat Serena Williams in a tennis match

Williams may have won Wimbledon on seven occasions and have 23 Grand Slams singles titles but that hasn't stopped the hubris.

Serena Williams may be the greatest player to have ever graced a tennis court but a ludicrous number of Brits believe they'd get a point against her, or even beat the American.

The start of Wimbledon on Monday means that lots of casual fans suddenly become experts on the game, especially when a British star is playing.

How often have you heard your mum berate Andy Murray or Tim Henman for missing a relatively 'easy' shot, no? Just me then perhaps?

Fans certainly were clued up enough to be unimpressed by this year's draw, with many claiming the women's side had been 'rigged.'

The women's tour is more open these days with the 'retirement' of Serena Williams last year, although she soon declared she could make a comeback.

Williams has won the singles title at the All England tennis club on seven occasions and picked up six doubles titles at SW19 and one mixed doubles.

She also won the gold medal in the singles at the 2012 Olympics on the famous grass courts so fans in Britain have had plenty of chance to see her prowess live.

However that hasn't stopped them being very confident against the 41-year-old, with 26% of people who 'occasionally play sports telling BonusCodeBets they'd win a point against her and another 4% who don't do sports echoing those sentiments.

On top of that there are 5% of all people asked who believe that they'd take at least 48 points off the tennis legend and could beat her one-on-one.

That is a literally insane way to think, because not even men have managed to beat the 23 time Grand Slam singles champion.

In fact on one occasion she even played against five men at once and wasn't even playing at full capacity and they still couldn't win a point from her.

Of course it is typically men who find themselves in an optimistic mindframe when it comes to coming up against women tennis players.

The survey also found that 7% of those who regularly play sports thinking they would beat any player currently in the women's top 10.

Back in 2017, John McEnroe claimed that Williams would only be the 700th best player if she played on the men's tour instead of the women's.
