The 2025 US Open mixed doubles event got underway on Tuesday, but Carlos Alcaraz and Emma Raducanu were no match for Jack Draper and his partner.
Heading into the revamped US Open mixed doubles tournament, there was huge excitement about Raducanu and Alcaraz’s partnership, but they ultimately disappointed on Tuesday.
The pair were no match for Draper and his partner, Jessica Pegula, who won 4-2, 4-2 in the round of 16 before going on to defeat Daniil Medvedev and Mirra Andreeva 4-1, 4-1 in the quarter-finals to set up a semi-final clash against Iga Swiatek and Casper Ruud on Thursday.
Draper and Pegula will receive a combined $200,000 (£147,364) for their efforts in the semi-final in New York.

The prize pot for winning the tournament is a combined $1,000,000 (£741,375), while the runners-up will receive a share of $500,000 (£370,605).

And for most people, the aforementioned amounts are so-called life-changing amounts of cash, but not for Pegula.
The 31-year-old is set to inherit a huge amount of money from her billionaire father, Terry, who, according to Forbes, has a fortune worth $7.6B (£6B) from his dealings in the oil and gas industry.

Terry also owns the NFL team Buffalo Bills, and the NHL club Buffalo Sabres.
His oil and gas firm, East Resources, sold the bulk of its assets to Royal Dutch Shell for $4.7B (£3.85B) back in 2010.
Meanwhile, Jessica Pegula’s wealth is reported to be worth $10.2 million according to Forbes in 2024.
Speaking last year, the tennis star explained how she had grown annoyed due to the perception that she has butlers and travels on private planes.

“I did some media thing the other day, too,” she said during the 2024 US Open.
“They were, like: ‘What's the most annoying thing?’ It's that people think I have a butler, that I get chauffeured around. I have a private limo, that I fly private everywhere.
“I'm definitely not like that. People can think what they want. I don't know. I think it's kind of funny.

“A butler? Like, I read these comments, like: ‘She probably has this and that and that’. I'm, like: ‘No, not at all’. Maybe I should. I don't know at this point. Is that what you want me to do, do all these crazy things?
“Yeah, no, yeah, it's a little annoying, but honestly, I just think it's kind of funny because I don't really even know anyone that lives like that. It's outrageous, but…”
