Eddie Jones Told Mako Vunipola To Lose Weight For Autumn Internationals

Would you tell him?

Mako Vunipola is not the kind of man that I'd insult. To borrow the old joke if I caught him in bed with my wife I'd tuck him in, admittedly I don't have a wife but the point still remains. Eddie Jones clearly has bigger balls than me, no surprise there.

Life for the England team under Jones has been a lot of hard work but up to now it has reaped its rewards with a grand slam Six Nations win and a whitewash of Australia down under in the summer. But there's no resting on any laurels in Jones' squad.

Ahead of naming his 37 man training squad the England head coach had sent letters to all of his players informing them what they needed to work on. Prop forward Vunipola revealed that he was told to watch what he eats saying:

"A couple of weeks ago I got a letter saying I was in contention. Everyone got (a) letter, reminding us what to work on. Mine said not to eat too much - to lose some weight.

"I tried to look after what I ate and my diet during the summer. Eddie keeps you on your toes. I'm fighting for my place in this squad. Joe Marler's a world-class player so to have him back in the squad is a bonus."

Vunipola excelled in the summer and started all three games against Australia. However Marler was on a break from rugby. With the Harlequins forward back in contention the fight for the starting place is set to be very interesting.

England take on South Africa, Fiji, Argentina andAustralia in November and December as they continue their assault to overthrow New Zealand as world number one and world champions.
