Scotland have put themselves in a position to win the Six Nations for the first time ever after beating France 50-40 in Murrayfield.
The Scots have won the competition outright on 14 occasions, with their last coming in 1999 when it was the Five Nations - the year before Italy joined the tournament.
Gregor Townsend and his side now must travel to Ireland and beat Andy Farrell’s side in Dublin, something the Scottish head coach has never managed in his tenure.
However, this may not be enough for the Scots to end up as Six Nations champions, after their concession of four tries to the French at Murrayfield gave them a bonus point.

As a result, Fabian Galthie’s side remain top of the table going into the final round.
One fan took to social media, believing Scotland will rue this failure to shut the French out.

They said: “Think Scotland will be kicking themselves for not leaving with a bigger points difference. Could be the difference between a 6 Nations title and 2nd.”
Another English fan pointed out a key detail ahead of the final weekend of rugby: essentially, Scottish fans will have to do the unthinkable.
They must support England in order to see Townsend’s side crowned champions of the Six Nations, with the French needing to lose, draw or not get the bonus point win as long as the Scots earn a bonus point victory in Dublin.
The rivalry between Scotland and England is fierce, and famously there is a Six Nations ad demonstrating the desire all nations have to see England lose.
Yet, this may not be the case for arguably the nation and their fans that despise England the most due to their long and colourful history.
Ultimately the Scottish fans may be willing to put this rivalry to one side in order to see them win the Six Nations, even if only to say to English rugby fans for at least a year that they are champions of the competition.
