Wife responds after video emerges of rugby league star performing sexual act on another woman

Footage of Joe Westerman and a woman in an alleyway has gone viral leading to his wife maintaining that she isn't the woman in the video.

An English rugby league star has found himself in hot water after a graphic video leaked online involving himself and another woman.

The Sun reports that Castleford Tigers player Joe Westerman is the alleged man in a video circulating on Twitter, performing a sexual act on a woman in an alleyway.

The footage went viral on Monday (AEDT) and has since caused a stir, leading his wife Lauren to take to social media to maintain she is not the woman in the video.

Replying to a user who has since deleted the video, she wrote: “Can I make this VERY clear that this is NOT me.”

She later added: “We have three children one of whom is almost 15 and she doesn’t need to see things like this all over social media!”

The English Super League player has come under fire for the act that saw one man sneak up to the pair in what appears to be a back alley.

The man approaches the two as they are performing the act.

The alleged man looks shocked as he quickly stops what he is doing as the recording is stopped.

The Independent reports that Westerman has been hit with a ‘substantial fine’ by his side the Castleford Tigers.

They have ordered the 33-year-old to educate ‘young people on the effects of alcohol’ as well as the ‘dangers of social media when in the public eye’.

Westerman released a statement, saying: “Firstly, I would like to take this opportunity to wholeheartedly apologise to my family and friends for my actions.

“I’d also like to apologise to the supporters, sponsors, staff, and directors of Castleford Tigers as well as my team-mates.

“I’d like to extend this apology to the game of rugby league, and I have realised that I need to work on my decision-making around alcohol.”

The club released a statement of their own, saying: “The club and its welfare officers, in conjunction with Rugby League Cares, will continue to support Joe and his family throughout this difficult time and will make no further comment.”

The English Super League is set to kick off this week on Thursday (February 16), with the Tigers' first fixture coming against Westerman’s former club Hull FC on Sunday (February 19).

The situation has led to many reaching out to both the family to offer their support at a tough time.

SPORTbible reached out to the Castleford Tigers for comment.
