Jai Arrow not allowed to say goodbye as his pet is put down for mauling another dog

The Rabbitohs player was left devastated after his pet American Staffordshire terrier was put down before he had the chance to say goodbye.

NRL star Jai Arrow has slammed authorities who euthanised his American Staffordshire terrier before he was allowed to say goodbye to his dog.

Arrow’s pet named Thor was put down after mauling and killing an 11-year-old greyhound on the Central Coast.

The South Sydney player’s dog had already been declared dangerous by Sydney’s Waverly Council and was required to wear a muzzle or be secured with a leash.

The council also had to be notified if Thor was being moved out of the local area, which they claim they hadn't been following the incident.

Arrow claims he had told the Central Coast Council that the pet would be staying with one of his friends.

The incident occurred while Arrow was playing State of Origin.

It came just a few months removed from the terrier attacking a miniature schnauzer at Bronte Beach in April.

The owner of that pet says they were left with a $10,000 vet bill following the mauling.

Arrow wasn’t present at either attack.

The Daily Telegraph confirmed that the pet has been put down last Friday (August 19), however, Arrow’s legal team were planning on appealing the decision.

Arrow’s solicitor Paul McGirr claimed the council had not alerted Arrow or himself that they were terminating the dog, and instead sent through an email after the fact.

He said: “They terminate the dog on Friday and then at 4:45 pm on Friday send me an email saying they would exercise their powers and they would terminate the dog – yet they had already done it.

“We were looking to appeal the decision of the council to the Supreme Court and throughout this process we have asked them not to do anything.

“What they’ve done is terminate the dog and then sent me the email.”

Arrow was left incredibly angered by the move.

He told Channel 9: “I think it’s an absolute disgrace that they couldn’t even notify me and at least give me the decency to go and say goodbye to him”.

McGirr says he will be exploring legal avenues following the council’s decision to terminate with proper notification.
