A contestant on the popular ITV quiz show Who Wants to Be a Millionaire gambled £125,000 when asked a tough Olympics question.
Earlier this year, Roman Dubowski got all 15 questions correct to become the first winner in six years and only the seventh in the show’s history to scoop the million-pound jackpot.
One female contestant was well on her way to following in Dubowski's footsteps in a recent episode, and even overcame a tricky sports question in the process.

Who Wants to Be a Millionaire contestant wins £125,000 after gambling on Olympics question
Difficult sports trivia is a regular fixture on the show and, when Jeremy Clarkson asked an Olympics-related question, she was willing to gamble the chance to win £125,000.

With 32,000 already guaranteed, she had to answer: which Summer Olympics did Great Britain win a gold medal in only one event from the following options: Atlanta 1996, Sydney 2000, Athens 2004, and Beijing 2008.
When weighing up the answers, her Olympics knowledge came into play, as she said: "I know they won quite a lot of medals for rowing in the 2000s, so I think I might take another gamble cause I've still got £32,000. I suppose you can't go from winning one gold one year to winning loads in the next one. So, I feel like I should start with the earliest and go with Atlanta 1996."
That was, indeed, her final answer, and before delivering the news that she got the question right, Clarkson added to the suspense by saying: "We're always told not to gamble, aren't we? [long pause]. Wrong advice. That's the right answer; you've just won one hundred and twenty-five thousand pounds."
Matthew Pinsent and the legendary Steve Redgrave were, of course, the duo who famously delivered Great Britain a gold medal in rowing at Atlanta 1996, as the contestants' Olympics knowledge paid dividends.

On that occasion, her decision to gamble paid off handsomely, as it appeared to be an educated guess rather than a stab in the dark.
Other contestants, meanwhile, have gambled thousands on the show and even used a lifeline before eventually getting the question wrong.
That was the case in January 2024, when Neil Montero was asked to name which team England had beaten at the World Cup from Brazil, Argentina, Italy and Spain.
Montero was playing for £64,000 when he decided to use the "Ask The Audience" lifeline to give him a helping hand, but instead of coming to his rescue, they were a hindrance.
A majority 52% of the audience selected Spain as their answer, when Argentina - the team England have beaten on three occasions at World Cup Finals - was the correct answer.
Unfortunately, Montero went with the majority and brutally lost £24,000 after guessing incorrectly before walking home with £8,000.
