Who Wants To Be A Millionaire Contestant Made £875k Mistake On Boxing Question

The contestant on Who Wants To Be A Millionaire contestant looked to to win a million pounds but made a costly error.

A contestant on Who Wants To Be A Millionaire was stumped on a boxing question which baffled many viewers who were irritated by her gameplay.

The popular ITV quiz show often throws up its fair share of sport-related questions, with British pianist and composer Jools Holland infamously leaving host Jeremy Clarkson stunned when asked, "'The Football for Sale' investigation by The Telegraph newspaper led to the resignation of which England manager?"

But there was another simple question from the world of boxing which caused a huge reaction online back in October 2024.

Jackie Lynch was in the hotseat and looking to be a million pounds richer but despite advancing well, she used up all of her lifelines early on.

She managed to get to £125,000 and used her safety new to secure the cash no matter what happened.

In a boxing question which fans of the combat sport will have know easily, Jackie was asked a question about Floyd Mayweather, arguably the greatest ever with a perfect 50-0 professional record.

The question was, "Dubbed the 'Fight of the Century'. Floyd Mayweather's 2015 boxing match against which opponent was the highest-grossing in history?".

The answers given included Oscar Del La Hoya, Saul 'Canelo Alvarez, Manny Pacquiao and Conor McGregor - Mayweather's final ever opponent in 2017 before he moved on to exhibition bouts.

But while all the aforementioned fighters did all face Mayweather in big money fights under the lights, Pacquiao was his dance partner for the highest-grossing contest.

Unsure about the answer, Jackie decided it wasn't worth the risk of guessing and proceeded to take the money.

After offering his congratulations, Clarkson asked Jackie who she would have picked if she decided to play - to which she revealed Del La Hoya to be her choice.

He the informed her that the answer was incorrect and would have seen her lose over half the money and end up with £32,000.

Jackie had stated earlier that her friend would know the answer but she was not able to call upon their assistance because all lifelines were used on what were widely viewed as easier questions.

However, viewers watching claimed that she could have gone all the way and secured the £1 million jackpot had she used her lifelines in a smarter manner.

One wrote: "She could have gone all the way if she used the lifelines smarter #wwtbam."

A second said: "3 lifelines wasted #WWTBAM."

Another commented: "Well that was a very expensive lesson #WhoWantsToBeAMillionaire."

Mayweather beat Pacquiao via unanimous decision in the unified world welterweight title fight but a decade on and there have been persistent rumours swirling about a rematch.

Mayweather is poised to meet Mike Tyson in a exhibition superfight but according to Pacquiao, the two camps are "in negotiations" over a second bout that would "probably" take place in Las Vegas.

In October he told Seconds Out, "My people and his people [are] directly co-ordinating."
