There's something I find a little weird about sportsmen being knighted, or women getting a damehood, before their careers are over. However the trend is set to continue after the Rio Olympics with Mo Farah the next high profile sports person set to be on the end of the Queen's sword.
Recent Olympic success has seen sports people collect all sorts of honours, with Sir Bradley Wiggins the most high profile example, whilst still competing and able to collect many more golds and trophies.
After capturing his third Olympic gold, by defending his 10km title won in London, in Rio the Somali born long distance runner is set to join the knights of the round table- that's how it works right?- after The Games are over even if he doesn't manage to win the 5km gold early on Saturday morning.

According to a source close to the process Farah will be "recommended for an upgrade" to the sports honours committee with the 33 year old already in possession of a CBE, the honour directly below a knighthood.
All gold medal winners in the past have received honours in the New Year's Honours list and that trend is likely to continue this year. Multiple gold winning couple Laura Trott and Jason Kenny will be under consideration for dame and knighthoods but considering their youth and OBE status they may just be 'upgraded' to CBEs.
"Arise Sir Mo!" it has a wonderful ring to it but that won't stop it sounding weird when he steps onto the track at the World Championships in London next year!
