Dr. Dre is 'dead ass serious' about trying to compete at the 2028 Olympics in a shock career change.

Dre - real name Andre Romell Young - took part in the closing ceremony of the 2024 Paris Games as the French capital officially handed Olympic hosting duties to Los Angeles for the event in 2028.

He joined Snoop Dogg on the Venice Beach stage, with the pair of rap legends performing 'The Next Episode' - a fitting track ahead of the 2028 Olympics that is being dubbed as LA28.

And the 60-year-old, born and raised in Compton, California, harbours ambitions of representing Team USA.

The rap icon is a keen archer and is eyeing his country's archery squad for the Olympics.

"I'm try'na try out for the Olympics in 2028," he revealed, before explaining the sport he'd take up at the Olympics.

"Archery," he added. "I'm dead ass serious. Yup."

On his love for archery, Dre said: "I actually started playing around with archery in junior high. I stopped for a while, and my son bought me a setup.

"I have it set up in my backyard and I heard qualifying for the Olympics is 77 feet. I practice at 90. Wouldn't that be interesting?"

South Korea's Kim Woo-jin won gold in the men's individual competition, and they also took home the main prize in the mixed team event.

USA claimed bronze in the mixed team event, so Dre has some work to do if he wants to make the squad.

The American took up archery as a hobby a few years ago, with a clip of him teaching Big Boy how to shoot arrows going viral.

So, he clearly knows what he's doing, but whether he's Olympic standard is another question.

The Los Angeles Games is not just home territory for Dre but also his backyard, having grown up in the area, making an appearance at the Olympics even sweeter.
