One of the new sports being added to the agenda at the 2028 Olympics will be played more than 1500 miles away from host location Los Angeles.

The next Games will take place in the City of Angels in three years and is expected to bring in 15 million visitors.

LA have hosted the Olympics on two occasions before and despite the recent wildfires which terrorised the area, are on course to make it a historic third.

A major revamp to the metro and public transport system is planned, with LA also poised to borrow 3,000 buses from other US cities.

50 venues are set to play host to various events and sports, though one will actually be taking place a lot further away.

Softball, a variation of baseball but with a large ball, is being brought back for the event, having been played at the 1996 Olympics right through to the 2008 Games.

It will be played with international rules and governed by World Baseball Softball Confederation (WBSC).

However, it's been confirmed that all the action will actually be taking place at the Softball Hall of Fame Complex in Oklahoma City, more than 1000 miles away.

"It's a state of the art facility," Monica Abbott, a two-time silver medallist, told Olympics.com on the softball-specific 13,000 capacity venue.

"It's the home of USA Softball; it's double decker seating; it's a true softball field, whereas in times in the past we've had to play in baseball stadiums."

Softball was first introduced at the Olympics in Atlanta as a women's-only medal sport, with the US winning the inaugural gold medal on home soil.

In its most recent appearance, Japan won gold at the Tokyo Olympics.

As well as softball and baseball, cricket and lacrosse will be returning - with flag football and squash being added by the IOC for the first time.

In addition, it's been reported that FIFA have requested that the IOC include both beach soccer and futsal, two variations of football, in the next Olympics.

FIFA have governed both Futsal World Cup and the Beach Soccer World Cup since 1989 and 2005 respectively.
