Cody Simpson has only gone and done it.

The Aussie pop star has fulfilled his lifelong dream of representing his country on swimming's global stage.

But not just that, he's only gone a won a gold medal at the Commonwealth Games too.

The Australian men's 4x100m freestyle relay team cliched gold in Birmingham.

Simpson didn't feature in the final, although he did swim for the team in the semi-finals meaning he collects a medal too.

It's a remarkable achievement for a guy who only recently swapped the recording studio for the swimming pool after registering his interest in competing for Australia.

Now, a few short years after re-commencing his strict swimming training, the 25-year-old has a gold medal to show for all his hard work.

To put things into perspective, Simpson was singing 'I Still Call Australia Home' for the Queen Elizabeth II at the last Commonwealth Games in the Gold Coast.

Four years later and he's a gold medallist himself.

“That would be unreal [to win a medal], for sure,” he told News Corp after the heats.

“Australia has so much depth in freestyle, so to be able to be in with those guys is awesome.

“It’s awesome to be in there with these guys. I’ve watched them... for years so to be doing it with these guys is pretty special.”

Simpson's partner Emma McKeon isn't doing too badly herself in Birmingham.

The Aussie just etched her name into the history books by becoming the most decorated Commonwealth Games athlete of all-time with a whopping 11 gold medals to her name.

“You know, when you meet someone, you just recognise that there’s something there. I always saw her as this special person to me. Like overall, pretty inspiring human,” Simpson said of McKeon in an interview with Channel 7.

“There’s something there that we didn’t obviously explore then.

“I always acknowledged that there was a connection that we had. But we didn’t act on it until what ended up being a year later.

“We talk every day about how happy we are and how lucky we are. I think we definitely appreciate it.

“Whenever I’m playing (music), she’ll just drop whatever she’s doing and watch and listen. She doesn’t have to do that, but I like that. You always pay attention. It’s nice.”

The singer-turned-swimmer will undoubtedly have his sights set on the upcoming 2024 Olympic Games in Paris.
