A Brazilian bodybuilder, who died after being taken ill at a competition, reportedly made a grim comment just hours before his death.

Wanderson Da Silva Moreira, 30, fell ill at a bodybuilding competition in Campo Grande, west Brazil, on Saturday (May 10).

Reports from Brazil, relayed by the U.S. Sun, claim the 30-year-old suffered a cardiac arrest while competing in the Pantanal Contest, a competition used as a way of qualifying for prestigious events such as Mr Olympia Brazil and the Arnold Classic.

Eyewitnesses explained how Moreira appeared unsteady on his feet before collapsing in front of judges and spectators.

Medics worked on him for around an hour, but he was pronounced dead shortly afterwards.

Moreira's coach paid tribute to him on social media, he wrote: "I have no words to describe the depth of sadness and shock I still feel.

"He was not an athlete, he was a great friend, a family man, a man with a huge heart who was always willing to help those who needed him.

"We can only mourn his loss and ask God to comfort especially his family and all of us.

"You are and always will be part of our team and family."

According to a friend who accompanied Moreira, he had complained of feeling unwell earlier in the day, as reported by NewsFlash but still wanted to compete. The friend also purportedly explained that Moreira had a history of high blood pressure. The bodybuilder leaves behind his wife and two children.

The Mail reports that an investigation has been launched into his sudden death.

This comes after several shocking deaths of other bodybuilders in recent years.

In 2017, the hugely popular Rich Piana died after collapsing at his home while having a haircut. Although an autopsy ruled the 46-year-old's cause of death as "unknown" findings cited "significant" heart disease and that "his reported history of drug use, and a lack of specimens provided from the hospital as reasons why a cause of death could not be determined, because any one of those factors could have contributed to his death", according to Men's Health.

Although there is nothing to suggest the same applies to Moreira at this time.
