Companies pay $7 million for just 30 seconds of advert during the Super Bowl

Companies pay $7 million for just 30 seconds of advert during the Super Bowl

The adverts during the Super Bowl are just as important as the action on the pitch to many of those watching in the US.

Companies wanting to advertise during the Super Bowl had to pay millions of dollars, just to show 30 seconds of their advert.

The Super Bowl is one of the biggest annual sporting events of any year but it's not just the action on the field that gets people interested in the 'big game.'

Such is the grandiose nature of the final match of the NFL season that even PSG boss Nasser Al-Khelaifi once asked why the Champions League didn't feel as big as the Super Bowl.

He seemed to forget that more people watch European club football's biggest game every year, but perhaps he had a point when it comes to the razzmatazz.

Whilst many fans won't care about all the bells and whistles in football, it certainly adds to the whole spectacle when it comes to American Football's showcase.

One of the things that really makes the Super Bowl is the adverts that play during the game, too regularly if you ask a British audience.

New and exciting adverts and film trailers premiere during the huge match and companies spend huge sums to make sure they get a slot.

According to Statista, a leading provider of market and consumer data, companies will pay, on average, $7 million for an advert that lasts just half a minute.

Back in 2002 it cost just 2.2 million dollars per advert and it has only gone up since, making Super Bowl LVII the most expensive ever for advertisers.

2007 and 2021 are the only two years that are outliers, with prices those years dropping the previous, only for it to shoot back up the following years anyway.

In 2020, a survey revealed that 79% of viewers for the game saw the adverts as a separate entertainment, with 71% saying they enjoyed the ads.

Two years ago, Anheuser-Busch, the brewing company which owns Budweiser, spend an incredible $52 million on adverts during the game.

This year, KSI and Logan Paul were amongst the advertisers, as the YouTubers turned boxers premiered their latest ad for their Prime drink.

The Flash and Indiana Jones were amongst the films which had trailers on, as the Kansas City Chiefs and the Philadelphia Eagles faced each other.
