Richard Sherman Turns on Russell Wilson as Seattle Seahawks Legends Clash

The New York Giants quarterback was criticised by a Super Bowl winner.

Richard Sherman has turned on Russell Wilson with the two Seattle Seahawks legends clashing as the legacy of the quarterback was discussed.

The New York Giants quarterback has endured a difficult start to the NFL season. After a disappointing performance in a 22-9 loss to the Kansas City Chiefs, Wilson has found himself benched in favour of rookie Jaxson Dart.

Wilson, who only joined the Giants in March 2025, signed a 1-year contract reportedly worth $10.5 million. The 36-year-old's early-season struggles have led many American football fans to question whether he is still the player he once was.

Wilson spent the majority of his career with the Seahawks, playing in Seattle from 2012 until 2021, and cementing his legacy by leading the team to their first ever Super Bowl victory.

Now, former teammates and NFL legends are beginning to turn on him when it comes to his legacy in the sport.

On Amazon Prime's showing of Thursday Night Football, Hall of Famer Tony Gonzalez said: "Honestly, I hope we have seen the last of Wilson.

"I say that because just looking at him and his career, his legacy. If ever there was somebody who played himself out of a Hall of Fame, it's Russell Wilson."

Gonzalez went on to highlight Wilson's struggles since leaving Seattle, noting his difficulties with both the Denver Broncos and Pittsburgh Steelers before joining the Giants.

Sherman, who played alongside Wilson for several years in Seattle, including during the Super Bowl winning campaign of 2014 with the 'Legion of Boom' defence, added his own critique.

"I agree," Sherman said.

"I think you've got to judge his career off of when the Legion of Boom was there, he had a legendary defence, an all-time defence and how much success he had.

"Then, without that legendary defence, he's been 4-11, 7-8, 0-3 to start with the Giants. He was a winning football player in Seattle and people say 'hey, winningest football player', all this good stuff and all these accolades.

"Now, you get to go on your own and you get to prove 'hey, I'm this great quarterback, I'm this guy who's going to be dominant, and it just hasn't worked out that way."

Sherman's comments have not been well received on social media, with fans accusing him of turning on his old teammate.

One wrote: "Richard Sherman’s career only lasted four years after he left Seattle. He has to stop hating."

Another added: "Richard Sherman doesn’t realize he comes across worse in this than Russell Wilson."

The dispute shows no signs of ending, with the Giants back in action on Sunday, when they host the Los Angeles Chargers.

With the Giants winless in their first three games and the Chargers boasting a perfect record, it is sure to be another testing encounter.
